POKOTABI / Sushi Kairo Nihonbashi Sushi Umiji Nihonbashi
寿司海路 日本橋 Sushi Umiji Nihonbashi
In Nihonbashi-Hongokucho, Sushi Kairo Nihonbashi Sushi Umiji Nihonbashi offers refined sushi in a relaxed setting, from counter omakase courses to à la carte nigiri such as kohada and kuruma prawn, along with seasonal appetizers.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Watching the chef's hands work across the counter while waiting for each piece of nigiri to be pressed is one of the genuine pleasures of dining on sushi. Located on the 1th floor of the Yoshikawa Building in Nihonbashi-Hongokucho, Sushi Kairo Nihonbashi Sushi Umiji Nihonbashi offers classic Edomae sushi in a calm, quiet atmosphere. Alongside structured omakase courses, the restaurant keeps its doors comfortably open to diners who prefer ordering à la carte according to their mood and personal taste.
The pillars of the menu are the Omakase Yama and Omakase Kairo courses, which deliver a well-paced progression of diverse seafood treated with meticulous care. Those selecting individual nigiri will find dependable seasonal staples: cured kohada (gizzard shad), wild red sea bream, sweet kuruma prawn, scallop, and gently simmered conger eel. The small-plate kitchen is equally thorough, turning out rich monkfish liver (ankimo), refreshing shirako ponzu (milt with citrus soy sauce), and fragrant grilled scallop wrapped in nori seaweed, making it easy to settle in with sake.
The counter seating accommodates solo diners comfortably, with the added pleasure of interacting with the approachable chefs as the meal unfolds. Whether stopping by for lunch or booking ahead for dinner, guests often round out the meal by adding thin rolls such as torotaku (fatty tuna with pickled radish) or anakyu (conger eel with cucumber) to finish on a deeply satisfying note.
